Filmfreedom is a passion project turned business venture. It originated from my own need for high quality stock footage. You know, good stuff that’s not corny.
I designed, built and managed Filmfreedom from scratch using wordpress, Adobe CC and AWS.

I’ve been a longtime fan of director Jakob Owens. He owns an eCommerce store that sells various digital video editing assets, including stock footage. However, because video is difficult to manage due to its large file size, the stock footage category on his website held room for improvement.

I cold DM’d Jakob asking if he’d like to partner to host his footage on my new platform and split the profits. He immediately saw the value and agreed.
After months of uploading his footage to the platform and marketing the site we gained social +1000 followers and was driving organic traffic to the site every day.

Ultimately, I learned that it’s simply too expensive to manage raw video at scale. I considered the idea of raising capital but did not want the leverage nor hassle of investors. I decided to shut down the service in 2022.
